“Mathematics
is that portion of our intellectual activity which transcends our biology and
our environment. [The
mathematician] does not believe that mathematics consists in drawing brilliant
conclusions from arbitrary axioms, of juggling concepts devoid of pragmatic
content, or playing a meaningless game.” - Errett Bishop
This is the second edition of the series of
conferences, under the title: Constructive Mathematics as a Bridge Between
Classical Mathematics, Mathematical Education, Philosophy of Mathematics and
Computer Sciences - An Appealing Intellectual Unification (for the first edition
see http://www2.masfak.ni.ac.rs/cmfp2013/). This year’s
conference will be dedicated to the memory of the American mathematician, elected
a fellow of the American Academy of Art s and Science Errett Bishop (1928 – 1983), celebrating the 95th ANNIVERSARY
of his birth as well as the 55th anniversary of the publication of
his seminal book Foundations of
Constructive Analysis (FCA).
The main aims of the
conference are:
- To
provide an opportunity for experts to present and discuss their recent research
in seminars that relate to the various aspects and implications of constructive
mathematics
- To hold
a mini-series of lectures, given by experts in various fields and designed
to engage academics from STEM disciplines and Humanities (including graduate
students) in the discussions around the recent developments in constructive
mathematics and its applications.
The conference will
have two sections.
(I)
CONSTRUCTIVE
MATHEMATICS – foundations and practice
Topics include, but are
not limited to:
-
foundations of constructive mathematics (logic, type theory,
set theory, etc.);
- constructive analysis, algebra, and topology;
- constructive
reverse mathematics;
-
relationships
with computer science and AI.
(II)
CONSTRUCTIVE
MATHEMATICS – relations with education and humanities
Topics include, but not limited to:
- the
implications of constructive mathematics to mathematics education today;
- the
relationship of constructive mathematics to linguistics, philosophy;
-
the
implications for psychology of mathematics and mathematics education.
